What Is an Ozone Detector?

An ozone detector is used to monitor the levels of O3 gas in a room or space. When ozone reaches dangerous levels it can cause health problems and therefore needs to be monitored in real-time to ensure safety. Our ozone sensors are perfect for water treatment systems, indoor air quality monitoring and industrial applications.

Typical ozone gas sensors utilize electrochemical technology to detect O3 gas and convert it into an electrical signal. Ozone gas diffuses into the sensor causing oxidation and reduction reactions that are detected by the electrodes and circuit system. This produces a small current that is proportional to the O3 level and can be measured. This information is displayed on the screen and alarms can be activated when unsafe levels are reached.

The Importance of Ozone Detectors in Air Quality Monitoring

In some models, the ozone gas detector has an integrated display that directly displays the O3 concentration. This can help with troubleshooting, maintenance and training. Other models can be connected to a control panel or other device for continuous data transmission. Some models also account for air pressure and temperature to provide more accurate readings.

Some models include a pumped sample pump to allow for more frequent sampling of the O3 concentration. When using a pumped ozone detector, it is important to use a Teflon lined tube no longer than 1 m / 3 ft so that O3 doesn’t saturate and stick to the tubing and decrease the concentration that reaches the sensor. This type of detector should also be bump tested at least once a month to verify the accuracy of the readings.
