Spray foam insulation creates a custom air seal within your home. This allows for a more efficient, comfortable, and energy-efficient home by blocking convective heat transfer from the outside to the inside of your house during heating months and vice versa during cooling months. It also blocks the transfer of unwanted moisture into areas like crawl spaces and attics that can cause rot or mold and mildew.
When properly installed (only professional installers can achieve this), spray foam insulation will last as long as your building can. Unlike other traditional insulation products like fiberglass and cellulose, spray foam does not compress, sag or settle over time.
Spray Foam Insulation Can Improve Indoor Air Quality
Since spray foam insulation has such a tight seal, it prevents dust, pollen, other debris and chemicals from making their way into your home. This helps to keep your HVAC air filters from getting dirty and clogged too quickly, which saves on your utility bills.
If you want to go green, make sure your contractor uses low GWP (Global Warming Potential) spray foam insulation. You can find spray foam that is low GWP by looking for labels such as UL Environment, BASF Walltite CM01, or Genyk Boreal Nature.
It is important to note that, when used in an existing home, high-performance spray foam can be as much as two or three times more expensive than conventional fiberglass and cellulose. However, it is a worthwhile investment in order to increase your home’s energy efficiency and comfort.
